OLUYOMI ADEWALE MEMORIAL ACADEMY
OUR PROGRAMS
Oluyomi Adewale Memorial Program will enhance academic achievements of all students, particularly in the area of reading, writing, science and math. Through the program, students are engage in subject areas with an interdisciplinary learning approach. We ensure that students will be adequately prepared as they start new academic year through intense curriculum that will introduce them to the new academic work to be covered once school resumes in the fall.
Enrollment is free and breakfast and lunch is provided each day for all participants. This year, the program will run from Tuesday through Friday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with an hour block of each subject (English, Science and Math) and an hour of lunch. Friday is our Flex-day. On Fridays, students will engage in a hands-on experience linked to their respective class content. Our flex days are days when students take on extra-curricular activities that connect academic material to a meaningful practical application. This can range from a community service project, a field trip, science project, and dancing lesson. The idea behind the flex day is to attach class curriculum to an experience outside of the classroom while exploring their community. Our teachers comprise of NYS certified teachers, college students, and qualified members of society; who are provided with lesson plans that align with the National Common Core Standards, as well as necessary training to engage their students on Flex days.
The objective of Oluyomi Adewale Memorial Academy is helping all students, including at risk students develop their level of academic achievement to the point where they can succeed in school and develop the skills that will prepare them for high school and post-secondary education. Many studies are showing that students who lack critical thinking and comprehension skills are more likely to disrupt the class, have lower school attendance rates, and are at extreme risk of dropping out of high school.
Our main objectives include:
1. Providing a measurable increase in basic comprehension skills in Math, Science, reading attention span, and general problem solving.
2. Allowing access to curriculum aligned with National Common Core Standards through the use of assistive educational technology.
3. Helping learning disabled students stay in a regular classroom with their peers, so they can learn in a least restrictive environment.
4. Providing students with opportunities to explore their community through service learning projects and activities.
On the First day of the program, assessment exams that are similar to that of standardized testing material will be taken in each subject area and graded. The same assessment will be given at the end of the program. Student performance will measure the effectiveness of the program.
